Announcing the 2026 International Science Olympiad teams!
Congratulations to the teams of students selected to represent Australia at the 2026 International Olympiads.
The International Science, Mathematics and Informatics Olympiad teams were announced at the Australian Olympiad Teams Announcement (AOTA). The official ceremony was held at Australian Parliament House in Canberra on 22 June 2026, attended by the students and their families, program staff and distinguished guests from science, maths and informatics communities.
Our honoured guests included Australia’s Chief Scientist, Professor Tony Haymet who congratulated the 27 high school students from around the country. We were also fortunate to welcome Members of Parliament, supporting the students and personally congratulating students from their electorates.
Ben Kirk, Director of Business Development and Strategy for Australian Maths Trust, welcomed the audience and commenced proceedings with an Acknowledgement of Country.
We were welcomed by Professor Benjamin Burton, Board Member from Australian Maths Trust.
Following Professor Burton’s wide words, Dr Tegan Smith, Board Member of Australian Science Innovations, addressed the audience. Tegan acknowledged the generous support of our sponsors, ‘The Science Olympiads takes serious backing. Thank you to the Department of Industry, Science and Resources, our partners at the Australian National University, and our Major Partner, Citadel Securities. Your support is a direct investment in the people who will solve the next generation of global problems.’
Tegan noted how proud the ASI team are to be delivering opportunities and playing a role in supporting students who will go on to make real contributions to Australia’s scientific community. ‘The Olympiad programs identify, encourage, and enable Australia’s brightest students to pursue serious paths in STEM. We only need to look at the major national science reports from 2025 and 2026: the message from the scientific community is loud and clear that science is not a cost, it is a critical investment in our nation’s future. Australia fundamentally needs sharp scientific thinkers to grow our GDP, safeguard our national security, and pioneer real-world climate solutions.’
She thanked our tireless admin staff, our board, our dedicated teachers who spend extra hours mentoring, and the families who provide endless support and encouragement. ‘You are the foundation of this entire high-performance pipeline, and you have every right to be incredibly proud today.’
Tegan congratulated the students selected to represent Australia, ‘You are here because of your exceptional talent and grit. Please remember what you are doing matters. In a world dealing with complex challenges, sharp scientific thinkers have never been more important. Raw knowledge is only half the battle – collaboration, creativity, and sheer persistence are what move the needle.’
“You are the future of Australian innovation, science and technology.”
Following the ceremony, the students proceeded to enjoy lunch at Cafe Constitution where they were visited by Senator the Hon Tim Ayres, Minister for Industry and Innovation, Minister for Science, to congratulate them.
We extend our sincere wishes to the exceptional Australian teams who are proudly representing our nation at the esteemed International Science Olympiads, International Mathematics Olympiad and International Olympiad of Informatics in 2026. Your unwavering dedication, tireless efforts, and remarkable achievements have been a tremendous source of inspiration to us all. We have complete confidence in your extraordinary abilities and know that you will shine brightly on the international stage.
As you embark on this incredible journey, may luck and success accompany each and every one of you. We appreciate your determination and passion, knowing that your hard work and brilliance will undoubtedly make Australia proud.
