Agreement to be bound by Terms

These Terms and Conditions of Use (“Terms of Use”) apply to the website located at asi.edu.au, and all associated sites linked to or from that site by Australian Science Innovations (“ASI”) and its affiliates (collectively, the “Website”). The Website is the property of ASI and its licensors. By using the Website, including to register for or participate in any program offered by ASI (“Program”), you agree to these terms of use as they stand at the time of accessing the Website. If you do not agree to these terms of use, do not use the Website.

Limitation of liability and Indemnity

ASI does not promise or warrant that the Website or any content, service or feature of the Website will be error-free or uninterrupted. In particular, from time to time information that would normally be available through the Website and activities performed via the Website (including relating to registering for or accessing Programs) may not be able to be accessed or performed online for technical or other reasons.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, ASI disclaims any and all liability in relation to the information contained on the Website, the operation of the Website and inability to access the Website for any reason. That disclaimer includes any damages, liability or injuries caused by any unavailability, failure of performance or error in performance of the Website, and any error, omission or defect in the information contained on the Website, and, to the maximum extent permitted by law, includes all claims or damages at common law (including contract and restitution), equity and under statute. Your sole remedy against ASI is limited to cessation of use of the Website.

You agree to indemnify ASI in respect of any liability incurred by ASI as a result of your use of the Website, whether authorised or unauthorised.

Copyright

All copyright works on the Website (including text, graphic, photographic, sound recordings and video works) are owned, controlled or licensed to or by ASI, and are protected by law. Except as expressly provided in these Terms of Use, no part of the Website may be copied, reproduced or adapted in any way without ASI’s prior written consent.

Privacy and storage of your personal information

It is necessary for ASI to obtain and store information about you in order to conduct Programs and provide the services offered through this Website. The collection and use of your private information, and your rights in respect of it, is set out in the Privacy Policy on this Website.

ASI Program Terms & Conditions

Program Registrations

Program registrations must be submitted via the online links provided. Registrations must be submitted before the published registration close date.

Any person making a registration to take part in one or more of our Programs is deemed by the Owner to be authorised to do so, and liable for payment of the registration.

China

Schools and students in mainland China, Macau and Hong Kong must register with ASDAN, the local provider of ASI activities.

Access to our Programs

All communication about, and access to, the Programs will be made via the email address provided by the User in their registration form.

Access to the Programs will be available only on the published dates. It is the Users responsibility to access the Programs on the published sitting dates.

The Owner cannot guarantee access to the Programs outside of the published sitting dates.

The Owner will do all that is reasonably possible to provide the User with access to the Programs on the published sitting date.

Eligibility for ASI Programs

Integrity of the Programs

Each ASI Program may have additional terms and conditions which must be accepted in order to participate in the Program. Where such additional terms and conditions exist, they apply in addition to these Terms of Use.

To protect the integrity of the Programs, each Program has a designated sitting date (or date range) and conditions that are published on this website. It is the User’s responsibility to adhere to these dates and conditions.

Under no circumstances may the Programs be sat before the designated sitting dates published on the website.
If there is evidence of collusion or other academic dishonesty, students will be disqualified.

Students who sit the same exam more than once, only the first attempt with be considered. For Junior Science Exam, students can only sit either the 7 & 8 and 9 & 10, in the case a student sits both, the first attempt with be considered.

Markers’ decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into.

Certificates and Results

Big Science Competition

Students will be provided a certificate indicating their performance. Schools will be provided with a report indicating their student’s performance. Teachers may download the certificates and school reports via the ASI Teacher Portal.

Australian Science Olympiad Exams

Students receive a certificate indicating their award. Schools will be provided a report with their student’s awards. Individual student marks and rankings will not be made available. Teachers may download the certificates and report via the ASI Teacher Portal.

Junior Science Olympiad Exams

Students receive a certificate indicating their award. Schools will be provided a report with their student’s awards. Individual student marks and rankings will not be made available. Teachers may download the certificates and report via the ASI Teacher Portal.

Student no-shows, changes, cancellations and refund

For Big Science Competition, the Junior Science Olympiad Exams, and the Australian Science Olympiads Exams

Once a registration is submitted the registering entity is liable for payment. Changes can be made up until the advertised registration close date.

After advertised registration close date, full payment of the invoice is required, regardless of how many students access the competition or exam during the sitting period.

Refunds can only be issued if a paid registration is cancelled before the advertised registration close date. Please email asi@asi.edu.au. Refunds or credits will not be issued for schools or students who fail to access the competition or exam during the available sitting dates.

For the Australian Science Olympiad Summer School, International Science Olympiad, Junior Science Olympiad Spring School, Junior Science Olympiad Talent Development Program:

Refunds may be issued if a student must withdraw from a program prior to commencement of the program. In cases where flights and accommodation have been booked, the refunded amount may be less than the invoiced amount and may even be nil. Your rights, including whether a refund may be available, are dealt with in the terms and conditions applicable to the relevant Program.

Fees

All prices are in Australian Dollars (AUD).

Big Science Competition (BSC): Registrations for Australian schools and students incur GST. Registrations for international schools and students do not incur GST. See our webpage for current BSC fees.

Australian Science Olympiad Exams (ASOE) and Junior Science Olympiad Exam (JSOE): All registrations incur GST. See our webpage for current ASOE registration fees.

Australian Science Olympiad Summer School and International Science Olympiad: These programs does not incur GST. Please see webpage for current registration fees.

Junior Science Olympiad Spring School, Junior Science Olympiad Talent Development Program: These programs does not incur GST. Please see webpage for current registration fees.

Invoicing and Payment

Invoices are issued within 10 business days of registration and sent via email to the Registration Contact.

Payment terms are net 14 days. Access to competitions/program may be withheld for non-payment of invoices.

The competition provider will provide participation data. Should the number of students sitting the competition exceed the number of students invoiced, an additional invoice may be generated after the competition period.

Payment can be made via the BPay or credit card details provided on the invoice. Credit card information is not stored.
