Introducing the students selected to represent Australia at the 2024 International Science Olympiads!
Congratulations to the teams of students selected to represent Australia at the 2024 International Science Olympiads.
The team was announced in an official ceremony at Australian Parliament House in Canberra on 24 June 2024, attended by the students and their families, program teams and distinguished guests from science, maths and informatics communities.
Our honoured guests included Australia’s Minister for Industry and Science, the Honourable Ed Husic MP, who was on hand to congratulate the 27 high school students from around the country. We were fortunate to welcome many Members of Parliament, supporting the students and personally congratulating students from their electorates.
We were welcomed by Belinda Robinson FAICD FRSN, Board Chair from Australian Maths Trust, who highlighted to the students that it takes more than talent, but problem-solving skills, ingenuity and creativity, to achieve what they have. She emphasised to the students that the collegiality they experience as part of the programs and overseas competition will be ongoing.
Anna Davis, Chair of the Board from Australian Science Innovations, celebrated the limitless potential of these young Olympiads and the pathway programs that have brought them here. She highlighted the aim to find more students in more places across our vast continent and provide opportunities to all talented science students, particularly those from regional, rural and remote areas.
We were so privileged to hear from Emeritus Professor Ian Chubb AC, Patron for Australian Science Innovations, who congratulated the students and expressed gratitude to their family, friends, teachers and mentors, reminding the audience that we are building the country, and raising the future of science and technology.
ASI’s Executive Director, Vanessa Kates said, “It’s a great privilege to celebrate the 2024 science, maths and informatics Olympiads. Once again, they are a group of students who have worked hard to be selected for the Australian teams. The International Olympiads are prestigious events where these outstanding students can showcase their own talents and build international networks.”
We extend our sincere wishes to the exceptional Australian teams who are proudly representing our nation at the esteemed International Science Olympiads in 2024. Your unwavering dedication, tireless efforts, and remarkable achievements have been a tremendous source of inspiration to us all. We have complete confidence in your extraordinary abilities and know that you will shine brightly on the international stage.
As you embark on this incredible journey, may luck and success accompany each and every one of you. We appreciate your determination and passion, knowing that your hard work and brilliance will undoubtedly make Australia proud.

Thank you for all the support along the way!
The students selected on these teams have outperformed thousands of other students in qualifying exams and intensive training to earn their place on the team. Their journey started by sitting the ASO Exam in July to August 2023 before being selected to attend ASO Summer School in January 2024, onsite at the Australian National University.
The team have gained immense knowledge and skills during the last year, under the guidance of their Program Directors, Deputy Program Directors and support teams.
We want to thank everyone who supports students to participate in our science extension programs. From the science teachers, school teams and principals, to the families and support people of our participants… to our team behind the scenes, our Board Members and our partners, supporters and sponsors…. thank you for recognising the importance of science!
