Australian Science Olympiad Exam Support

Preparation:
- You should attempt all questions in all sections of the exam.
- You may be required to view additional stimulus materials, such as images, videos and simulations which may be opened in additional browser windows or tabs from the main exam.
- All work must be your own and you must not communicate with others, including by using electronic devices such as phones or computers
- For the integrity of the competition, if there is any evidence of collusion or other academic dishonesty, students will be disqualified.
- All markers’ decisions are final.
- Some questions may ask for equations or additional workings.
- Summary answers must be submitted for all questions through the online exam interfaces
- Additional working may be submitted if needed in handwritten formats through uploads of files at the end of the exam.
Permitted/ Required Materials:
- Spare paper, pens, pencils, rulers, erasers.
- Non-programmable, non-graphical calculator, or equivalent phone or computer app
- Device, such as computer, to access exam through web browser and also view additional stimulus materials.
Preparation:
- A link to a Periodic Table is supplied on the splash page of the exam which may be opened in a separate tab.
- No other browser tabs are to be opened.
- No external sources are to be used, including AI software.
- Only your answers as entered will be marked. Provision has been made for the award of partial marks for:
a. partially correct answers (e.g. selecting one of multiple correct answers).
b. intermediate answers or answers resulting from previous errors (i.e. answers resulting from taking one or more correct steps towards solving a question). - All work must be your own and you must not communicate with others, including by using electronic devices such as phones or computers
- For the integrity of the competition, if there is any evidence of collusion or other academic dishonesty, students will be disqualified.
- All markers’ decisions are final.
Permitted/ Required Materials:
- Students will need a calculator (non-programmable), writing implements and scrap paper.
- A link to a Periodic Table is supplied on the splash page of the exam which may be opened in a separate tab.
Preparation:
- Students will be asked to review content before the exam of approximately 650 words, which will be referenced to throughout the exams.
- No other browser tabs are to be opened.
- No external sources are to be used, including AI.
- You can zoom in to see diagrams/graphs/images more clearly
- The exam contains two types of questions:
- Knowledge questions: these tend to be the shorter questions, and rely on concepts or skills you already know.
- Analysis questions: these tend to be longer passages of text to read, diagrams to analyse or calculations to be made. Use your scrap paper to draw mind maps, make notes and do calculations.
- All work must be your own and you must not communicate with others, including by using electronic devices such as phones or computers
- For the integrity of the competition, if there is any evidence of collusion or other academic dishonesty, students will be disqualified.
- All markers’ decisions are final.
Permitted/ Required Materials:
- Students will need a calculator (non-programmable), writing implements and scrap paper.
Preparation:
- Ensure that you allow time to upload additional handwritten materials within the time limit of the exam if you plan to do so.
- Ensure that diagrams are clear and labelled.
- All numerical answers must have correct units.
- Marks will not be deducted for incorrect answers.
- Mark values are provided for each question as an indication of suggested time, with one mark meaning a suggested time of one minute.
- All work must be your own and you must not communicate with others, including by using electronic devices such as phones or computers.
- For the integrity of the competition, if there is any evidence of collusion or other academic dishonesty, students will be disqualified.
- All markers’ decisions are final.
Permitted/ Required Materials:
- Paper, pens, pencils, rulers, erasers
- Non-programmable, non-graphical calculator, or equivalent phone or computer app
- Device, such as computer, to access exam through web browser and also view additional stimulus materials
- Device, such as smart phone, to scan work done on paper if desired and transfer files to device accessing exam
- AND/OR
- Stylus and app for recording handwritten work if desired for upload through device accessing exam.
- Do not use your smart phone for any reason other than to upload your additional workings to the website.
